An Engine Company's Responsibilities at a Crime Scene, Pt. 1

Lesson Purpose:

This is part one of a multi-part series on an engine company’s responsibilities at a crime scene. This discussion addresses controlling the scene, conducting a preliminary survey of the scene, and insure that the scene has been secured, determining the perimeters to be established.

Training Objectives:

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of an Engine Company’s Responsibilities at a crime, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
  2. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of conducting a preliminary survey of the scene, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
  3. Students will be able to secure a scene and determine the initial perimeters, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher

 

An Engine Company's Responsibilities at a Crime Scene, Pt. 2

Lesson Purpose:

This is part two of a multi-part series on an engine company’s responsibilities at a crime scene. This discussion addresses protecting crime scene evidence, insuring that the chain of custody is initiated for evidence, issues dealing with cross contamination of evidence, dealing with the media, documenting the event, and establishing a secondary perimeter.

Training Objectives:

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of an Engine Company’s Responsibilities at a crime, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
  2. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of evidence and cross contamination, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
  3. Students will be able to set up a secondary perimeter, dealing with the media and documenting the event, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
