Course Description

This course discusses death investigations in multiple scenarios, including natural and accidental deaths. The differences between cause and manner of death are also highlighted.

This course consists of three (3) video lessons and will include an assessment at the conclusion of each video lesson.

Credits: 3 hours

 

 Basic Death Investigation

Lesson Purpose:

Learn the necessary skills to conduct a basic death investigation. Scene investigation and processing, photographing the crime scene, interviewing witnesses, and report preparation are among the topics covered in the lesson.

Training Objectives:

At the end of this lesson, the student will be able to achieve the following objectives in accordance with the information received in class:

  1. Learn roles and responsibilities in a basic death investigation.
  2. Learn the essential steps necessary to conduct a death investigation
  3. Accurately document the investigative process

Accidental Death Investigation

Lesson Purpose:

This lesson is intended to teach a student how to investigate an accidental death scene. Crime scene processing, interviewing witnesses, and evidence collection are among lesson topics.

Training Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to achieve the following objectives in accordance with the information received in class:

  1.  Determine whether or not the manner of death is an accident.
  2. Identify different types of accidental deaths.
  3. Conduct a thorough investigation and documentation of an accidental death.

Natural Death Investigation

Lesson Purpose:

This lesson is intended to teach a student how to conduct a Natural Death Investigation. Types of natural death, symptomology, investigative techniques and report preparation are among the topics covered in the lesson.

Lesson Objective:

At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to achieve the following objectives in accordance with the information received in class:

  1. Determine whether or not the manner of death is Natural.
  2. Identify different types of Natural Death.
  3. Conduct a thorough investigation and documentation of a Natural death.
