Arson Investigation: Key #1, Systematic Approach

Lesson Purpose:

This is part one of a multi-part series on arson investigation. It is called "The Keys to a Successful Case." This first key is conducting your investigation using a systematic approach.

Training Objectives:

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of how to successfully conduct an arson investigation, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
  2. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of using a systematic approach to an arson investigation, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
  3. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the legal aspects when governing an arson investigation, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.

 

Arson Investigation: Key #2, Reconstruction

Lesson Purpose:

This is part two of a multi-part series on arson investigation. It is called "The Keys to a Successful Case." This second key includes reconstructing the fire scene, evidence protocols, motivation of the arsonist, and causes of a fire.

Training Objectives:

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of how to successfully conduct an arson investigation, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
  2. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of reconstructing a fire scene, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
  3. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of evidence protocols, motivation of the arsonist, and fire causes, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.

 

Arson Investigation: Key #3, Proper Documentation

Lesson Purpose:

This is part three of a multi-part series on arson investigation. It is called "The Keys to a Successful Case." This third key teaches proper documentation of the arson scene, including notes, writing a narrative report, taking photographs, preparing a diagram, and interviewing the victim(s).

Training Objectives:

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of how to successfully conduct an arson investigation, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
  2. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of properly documenting your arson scene passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
  3. Students will be able to properly take notes, writing a narrative report, taking photographs, preparing a diagram, and interviewing the victim(s), passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.

 

Aron Investigation: Key #4, On-going Training

Lesson Purpose:

This is part four of a multi-part series on arson investigation. It is called "The Keys to a Successful Case." This fourth key is on-going training. An arson investigator has to keep current and up-to-date on his/her skill level. This requires the investigator to meet regularly with other fire investigators, law enforcement officials, district attorneys, and attend training sessions.

Training Objectives:

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of how to successfully conduct an arson investigation, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
  2. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of attending on-going training, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
  3. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of current laws and cases by meeting with other investigators, law enforcement officials, and district attorneys, passing an online assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
